Special efforts are taken to design the curriculum in such a way that there is a gradual progression from basic to higher levels of learning.
Curriculum is framed with utmost care by practicing the following strategies.
•Feedback from the Alumnae and current students, suggestions from Academic and Industrial experts and Peer group are considered for the framing of the syllabus to meet the global demands.
• Subjects are introduced/updated to meet the recent trends.
•Courses focus on 50% Experimental Learning which includesPracticals,Industrial visits, Projects and Case Studies.
•Recommendations of IQAC are taken into consideration to frame the Syllabus.
We change the syllabus once in three years to keep in pace with the latest developments in the field of Computer Science. The lab is also updated on par with the syllabus.
2.Teaching – Learning Methods:
While planning and organizing every aspect of the teaching-learning process the Department of Computer Science takes care of students’ perspective, and the variation that exists in their aptitude.
E-learning is generally used in conjunction with other types of instruction, such as e.g. Chalk and Talk method. Department typically bring together a variety of methods to ensure the optimal education for their students.
• Students are given the facility for Blended learning.
•Students are encouraged to learn on their own (Self study) atleast half a unit using E-materials. This improves their confidence and encourages students to take responsibility for their learning.
•Every year has a common e-mail id which is used to submit on line assignments, project reports, homework programs etc. and through which they share their knowledge and hold
Discussions through conference chat
• We have ICT enabled teaching learning programs.
• E-modules are used for teaching.
• We conduct online objective test and assignment is also submitted online.
•Study materials are prepared by staff for Non-Major-Elective, Skill based papers, Certificate and
Diploma Courses.
3.Evaluation :
The following methods are adopted to evaluate the Knowledge,Understanding,Application, Synthesis and Analysis skills of the students.
• Tests
• Objective Test
• Open Viva-Voce
• Continuous Assessment of Practical sessions
• Project demonstrations
• Debugging
• Assignments
• Seminar
• Quiz competition in the class
• Comprehensive Viva-Voce
4.Student Support Programmes :
• Making students read one book of their choice in English and present the summary of it in the
class to enhance reading and language skills.
• Conducting mock interviews and mock Group discussion.
• Personality development programs.
• Programs on soft skill.
• Guest lectures and training by industrial experts to promote skills to face interviews.
• Group projects in the V Semester to evoke team spirit.
• Students are motivated to present papers on current trends in Computer Science.
• Individual Project in the VI Semester to master the Subject.
• Counseling and Career Guidance through Mentor system.
• Inculcating Organisational Skills through various Inter-Departmental and Inter-Collegiate events
• Association activities organized every month and award is given for the best leadership and
for the best all rounder.
• Annual Inter collegiate events TECHMEET.
• Environmental day/Ozone day is celebrated every year.
• Every day Two Departmental Notice Boards are displayed on Various topics by the students.
• Field visit to orphanages and old age homes are arranged.
• Industrial Visit is arranged every semester.
• Final Year Students exhibit their Internal Project Work to their Juniors apart from the Open
Viva-Voce for the External Project Work.
•To Face larger audience and to improve Communication Skills many opportunities are given in
the form of Seminars using LCD and Mike.
• Students with 100% attendance are encouraged with special prizes by the department.
• Department fund to help poor students.
5. Research and Consultancy:
• As a part of curriculum, students have project in V and VI semesters.During VI semester,
students are offered career training through project. They take up real time project work from
well established companies in and around Madurai city.
• Some companies are using the s/w projects done by our students.
• Department staff has given training to the Staff in Computer Usage and E-material production
• Department developed software for on-line feedback for faculty.
• Department is responsible for implementing on-line testing.
• Department is responsible for implementing on-line flashing of messages.
6. Alumnae Relationship:
• We maintain contacts with the alumnae through e-mail.
• Our students who are employed in different companies are invited to give special lecture to
the present students, to share their experience and expertise and to update them about the
expectations of the companies.
7. Parents – Teachers Relationship:

• Parents are intimated if a student fails in the semester examination.
• We get in touch with the parents if the performance of the students goes down.
8. MOU’s :
• Networking/ Linkage with Industry
As a part of curriculum, students have project in V and VI semesters.
During VI semester, students are offered career training through project. They take up real time project work from well established companies in and around Madurai city.We get acceptance letter from companies to do project and after completion companies give certificates to our students.
Some companies are using the s/w projects done by our students.
We have signed MOU’s with the following companies

b. Vetha Technologies (In Process)
9. Publication of Journals by the department:
•In house journal “THE QUEST” published every semester which contains general articles by students, computer related articles,Details about off campus participation of Students, Placement Details and Department information etc.
10. Out - Reach Program:
We, Department of Computer Science consider Extension activity is the educational process to provide knowledge to young people – Learn By Doing .
This involves not only educating students to find problems and methods to solve them but we want to inspire them towards positive attitude to learn the booming trend of Information Technology. We have taken up the extension activity to enrich the school students at Vaidhaiyanathaiyar School,Theekathir and George Middle School, Karimedu by teaching them Fundamentals of Computers.
This Teaching–Learning Process includes Simple Mathematical exercises to inculcate arithmetic skills and logical reasoning (by providing them with puzzles and Brain teasers).
Our students teach Grammar in an interesting manner by showing the school children with pictures,Flash cards. The also teach simple exercises by which the vocabulary mayget strengthened.
Our students help the school children in revising their curriculum during Term and Terminal Examinations. Our students conduct brain storming sessions to recollect ideas that the school children already known.
Objective:

Methodology Followed:
Cyber school on wheels which is fitted with LCD TV, Laptop Computer will be used to teach the school children .
11. Inter- Department Collaboration
• Addon courses offered by our department is taken by students of other departments like
Physics, Chemistry etc.
• Similarlystudents of Computer Science Department take courses offered by other departments.
• We are offering a paper on “Programming in C” for Physics Major students.
• Physicsdepartment is offering a paper on “Digital Principles and Applications” for our students.
